What do you need to become a driving instructor?

While a career as a driving instructor is a fantastic option there are a few legal pre-requisites that you need before you will be allowed to become an instructor. These are:

  • Hold a valid UK or EEA unrestricted driving license for at least 4 years
  • Be aged 21 or over
  • Have less than 5 penalty points on your license
  • Not be convicted of any non-motoring offences
  • Be able to read a number plate at a distance of 27.5 meters
  • Be required to apply for and pass a DBS check
